We are hiring a Traveling Healthcare Construction Superintendent to lead ground-up healthcare projects delivered by Skyler Healthcare Construction, LLC (“Skyler HC”) across Texas.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Superintendent serves as the primary on-site authority for daily execution of a ground-up healthcare project, from site mobilization through structural completion, building envelope, interior build-out, systems commissioning, and owner turnover. The role is responsible for safety leadership, trade coordination, schedule performance, quality control, and documentation quality.

This is a traveling, project-based field-leadership role. The current assignment is a ground-up healthcare facility in Dallas, expected to run approximately 9 to 12 months on a full-time, on-site basis. Additional assignments follow the work across the Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston markets. National travel may also be available in the future for the right and willing candidate. Future assignments are based on business needs; however, the anticipated next assignment is in Dallas.

Representative Scope Includes:

• Site mobilization, logistics, and laydown planning.
• Structural erection and vertical construction.
• MEP rough-in through finish coordination.
• Imaging, surgical, and clinical-space build-out.
• Systems, startup, testing, and commissioning.
• Sitework, foundations, and underground utilities.
• Building envelope and weatherproofing.
• Medical gas, life-safety, and emergency power systems.
• Interior finishes and healthcare-grade fit-out.
• AHJ and health-authority inspection coordination.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Field Leadership

• Serve as the primary on-site authority directing all daily construction activities.
• Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and project teams to maintain progress and productivity.
• Enforce adherence to plans, specifications, and quality standards through disciplined field presence.
• Make confident, timely on-site decisions to keep the project moving forward.

Ground-Up Execution

• Lead the project from mobilization and sitework through structure, envelope, and interior completion.
• Manage crane, hoisting, and site-logistics plans for safe, efficient vertical construction.
• Coordinate healthcare systems (medical gas, life safety, nurse call, headwalls, and emergency power) through installation and commissioning.
• Coordinate long-lead equipment such as imaging, generators, and switchgear with procurement and delivery schedules.

Schedule & Trade Coordination

• Develop and manage the CPM schedule and 2, 3, and 6-week look-ahead.
• Coordinate trade sequencing, manpower planning, and material deliveries.
• Identify and remove constraints such as RFIs, procurement delays, and access limitations.
• Hold subcontractors accountable for manpower, productivity, and schedule commitments.

Jobsite safety is the direct responsibility of the Superintendent; support staff may assist with implementation, but ownership of the jobsite safety culture cannot be delegated.

• Enforce the safety program and OSHA compliance, and lead toward an incident-free jobsite.
• Conduct daily safety inspections and weekly safety meetings.
• Address unsafe conditions immediately and decisively.

Quality, Documentation, & Closeout

• Own complete, accurate daily reporting through Procore, including photos, manpower, and inspections.
• Drive disciplined quality control, punch management, and closeout, with pride in zero-punch turnovers.
• Coordinate AHJ and health-authority inspections toward TCO/CO and owner turnover.
• Maintain documentation that supports transparency, coordination, and contractual defensibility.

Mentorship & Continuous Improvement

• Mentor and develop Field Engineers and Assistant Superintendents.
• Model leadership, professionalism, and accountability in the field.
• Apply Lean construction practices such as pull planning, the Last Planner System, constraint tracking, and daily huddles where applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

• 5+ years of healthcare construction field experience.
• 3+ years as a Superintendent or Lead Field Supervisor.
• Demonstrated ground-up vertical construction experience (healthcare, mission-critical, commercial).
• Proven leadership of subcontractors and field teams on complex or fast-track projects.

Healthcare Construction Experience

• Ground-up healthcare construction experience (ideal).
• Familiarity with medical gas, life-safety, and healthcare systems coordination.
• Experience coordinating AHJ and health-authority inspections.

Candidates with strong ground-up experience in other mission-critical sectors and the ability rapidly learn healthcare compliance may also be considered.

Technical Skills

• Reads and interprets contract documents, including plans, specifications, and addenda.
• Proficiency with construction technology platforms such as Procore, Bluebeam, BIM/VDC, Microsoft Office Suite, and other project management and scheduling software, with the ability to quickly learn new technologies.
• Strong CPM scheduling awareness and look-ahead planning capability.

Education, Licensure, and Travel

• High school diploma required; degree in Construction Science/Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
• Working knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal construction codes and regulations.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel across the Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston markets, with openness to national travel on future assignments for the right candidate.
• Willingness to be on-site for the duration of project assignments (currently Dallas, approximately 9 to 12 months).

TRAINING & CREDENTIALS

• ASHE HCC: ASHE Health Care Construction Certificate and associated healthcare-construction training, a priority for this position and provided based on role.
• ICRA for everyone: Infection Control Risk Assessment (“ICRA”) training for all employees.
• LEAN: Lean Construction Institute (“LCI”) LEAN methods are a plus. Skyler is a LEAN company, and LEAN practice is part of how we deliver.
• Ongoing safety and technical training appropriate to the role and jobsite.
