Skyler is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and ambitious Project Accountant to join our growing national organization. Skyler operates within the FGC2 platform of 30 operating and affiliated companies spanning construction, healthcare, industrial, emergency response, restoration, equipment rental, manufacturing, supply and distribution, technology, real estate development, and insurance recovery services.
This is more than a traditional accounting role. It is a development path toward Senior Construction Accountant, Corporate Controller, and future financial leadership. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in construction accounting, financial reporting, job costing, insurance claim accounting, forensic accounting support, and multi-entity financial management.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Project Accountant supports project teams, accounting leadership, and executive management by maintaining accurate financial records, tracking project costs, supporting billing and collections, and preparing accounting schedules to help ensure the financial success of projects and operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, accountable, organized, adaptable, proactive, solutions-oriented, and eager to grow professionally.
The ideal candidate will gain exposure to and develop working knowledge of construction and job cost accounting; WIP reporting, revenue recognition, and percentage-of-completion accounting; cost, labor burden, and equipment allocation; accounts payable and receivable; payroll allocation; general ledger and financial statement preparation; multi-entity and intercompany accounting; QuickBooks (Desktop & Online) and Premier Construction Software; Microsoft Excel; and insurance claim accounting and validation, builder’s risk and business interruption claims, FEMA reimbursement, disaster recovery cost tracking, and forensic accounting support.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Accounting
- Assist with project setup, project maintenance, and cost code administration.
- Monitor project costs and maintain job cost records.
- Review invoices and expenses for proper coding and allocation.
- Track project commitments, purchase orders, subcontract agreements, and change orders.
- Assist with project close documentation and financial reconciliations.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process vendor invoices and subcontractor pay applications.
- Support customer invoicing and collections efforts.
- Track retainage receivable and retainage payable balances.
- Assist with lien waiver administration and compliance documentation.
Financial Reporting
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing.
- Support preparation of monthly financial statements.
- Assist with account reconciliations and balance sheet schedules.
- Assist with cash management reporting and financial analysis.
Construction Accounting
- Support Work in Progress (WIP) reporting.
- Learn percentage-of-completion accounting and revenue recognition methodologies.
- Assist with labor burden allocation and project cost allocations.
- Assist with multi-company and intercompany accounting transactions.
Insurance Recovery & Forensic Accounting Support
- Assist with insurance claim cost tracking and documentation.
- Support insurance claim validation and reconciliation activities.
- Support disaster recovery cost reporting and FEMA reimbursement documentation.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and workflows.
- Support implementation of accounting system improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A growth mindset: accountable, proactive, adaptable, and solutions-oriented.
- Construction experience preferred.
- Multi-entity accounting experience preferred.
- QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online experience.
- Premier Construction Software experience.
- Preferred experience supporting project accounting functions, job costing, and cost coding.
- Preferred experience supporting insurance claims, restoration projects, or disaster recovery operations.
